I have tried a few cleansing products designed to remove makeup this year and across a variety of budgets, from cheap hughstreet creamy cleansers to high end cleansing oils. My favourite however has been the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm. I think its just fantastic.
At first the idea of using a balm to remove my makeup felt like an odd concept, I was expecting a thick glooppy texture similar to lip balm products. This balm however is totally different. The product comes set hard in a tub. However dip your finger in and the balm starts to melt into a smooth silky oil.
The Balm when first opened
You only need an almond sized amount to remove all traces of makeup from your face, including waterproof products.
The way I use this products is to scoop the amount I need out and dot it onto each cheek, my chin and forehead. It starts to slowly melt as soon as it hits your skin but not so much that it runs off your face. I then start to massage the product in circular motions around my face. I tend to focus first on my face before moving to my eye area as my eyes are where I wear the most makeup. Once Ive worked it all in and feel like all my makeup has been loosened I wipe my face with a warm wet cloth. I tend to was off the cloth and wipe my face a few times to make sure nothing is left, but after doing this my skin feels soft and clean. Then I can continue with the rest of my night time skin care routine.
The amount I use when cleansing
When I really fancy treating my skin I repeat the cleansing process a second time to ensure all impurities have been removed from my skin however this step isn't really necessary and I only tend to do this if I have been layering suncream under my makeup.
I know this cleansing balm is a very popular products and I have found that it is sold out most of the time online in most retailers. However I had no problem picking one up from a Clinique counter. Priced at £21.00 it defiantly isn't the cheapest cleanser on the market but I think it's great value for money considering how little you actually have to use. I can see this pot lasting me a long time.
